Spring Tips and AdviceSpring Shrubs

It is now a good time to remulch beds. Once the winter
flowering shrubs such as Sarcacocca have finished
flowering prune them. Pruning flowers such as Forsythia
Spirea Roses help to keep shape and increase their
flowers. Use compost or peat moss spread it over the
garden and till it under.

Spring Veg

Use plenty of compost or manure for your potatoes and
vegetables; this will help the soil to retain water and
moisture. Garlic can be planted in spring or autumn and
can be ready late summer.

Spring Lawn

It is now a good time to remove winter moss by
scarifying with a rake or mechanical scarifier. For the
first cut of grass raise the mower 2-3 inches to avoid
scalping the sward and leaving marks. Apply lawn
dressing which will help green up the sward without
promoting too much lush growth.

Spring Water Ponds

Now is a good time to clean water features and ponds
by cleaning out the leaves and dirt that has accumulated over winter. Remember to check for wild life in the pond.
Only use Aquatic Compost preferably a loam soil based
because organic matter tends to float. You can split or
re-pot aquatic plants when they have grown then pot in
the pond.

Spring General

Remember to service garden machinery, lawn mowers,
strimmers and any other equipment that you will need.
